History

The Saint Joseph Mission began eighteen years ago, when Hermine-Jesus first set foot in the United States, carrying with her a deep faith and a heart for service. Yet it was not until March 19, 2019, that her calling took official form and the Mission was formally established.

From her earliest years, Hermine-Jesus was inspired by her mother’s example—to use her time and talents to walk beside those in need, and to approach every person, especially the poorest, with compassion and respect. Guided by this lesson of love, she devoted herself to study, earning several graduate degrees and a certification in Spiritual Direction. These experiences became the foundation for her life’s work: while homeschooling her children, she began building a mission of accompaniment and hospitality here in Colorado, reaching not only local communities but also those living on the margins in her native Cameroon.

With the support of her family and a circle of friends who shared her vision, the Mission grew into a vibrant ministry. Across the United States, both lay and religious men and women have found comfort, guidance, and renewed faith through its outreach.

At the same time, in Cameroon—a nation burdened by years of civil conflict and dictatorship that have stripped many of their dignity—the Mission stands alongside the most vulnerable. Severely disabled and neglected children from orphanages and remote villages are receiving medical care, access to education, and the gift of being seen and valued once again. Their lives are slowly being restored, their dignity reclaimed.

Today, the Saint Joseph Mission continues to flourish through the leadership of a growing team in Denver. The elderly and afflicted are visited, comforted, and offered spiritual direction, while children in distant parts of Cameroon are being empowered to become self-sufficient and to live in connection with God and their communities.

The Mission remains a living testimony to what faith, compassion, and perseverance can build—a bridge of love that spans continents and uplifts the human spirit wherever it reaches.

Since its creation, the mission has paid numerous medical bills to allow individuals, often kids, to regain a normal life.
